JANE CORDINGLEYI live in the hills above Todmorden, West Yorkshire where I have a small pottery studio overlooking the moors. I have been a ceramicist for the past fourteen years and have been fortunate to have learnt from some very adventurous and creative people.
I make large sculptural pieces aiming for a naturalistic effect using a variety of handbuilding techniques. I also make a range of functional bowls and plates with a similar aesthetic. I work in a lovely grogged stoneware clay for texture to which I add by carving or imprinting with natural and found objects. The shapes, textures and colours of the moors, woods, waterfalls and stones in my immediate environment are the main inspiration for my work |
